Who's Cheaper?

Okay. Staples is cheaper than Kinkos. I go there.

Tiff Tiffy
First off, the lady tells me the tiff files I give her via the usb flash stick doesn't work on their computer since when she brings up the file manager thingie, there are no icons associated with them. That seemed odd to me.

So I ponder about it, wonder around in the store for a bit, and go back and ask what exactly files are supported. She doesn't really know, so she shows me what programs they print off of. MS WORD, maybe. Adobe Acrobat, difinately no. Some paint program, DING DING DING!!!

I ask her to please open the paint program. She does. I ask her to go to file open. I tell her to click on file type to open the file type, it opens a big list, and I tell her to scroll down.

FOUND OUT THAT TIFFS DO IN FACT WORK ON THE COMPUTER!!!

However, I'm not sure if the double sided prints will line up perfectly, and I don't want to pay for 10 lousy copies of a comic, so I get one double sided print set, and one single sided print set, that way, if the doubles don't line up perfectly, I can fidget them around with them on their copy machine.

BAD NEWS, I HAVE TO LEAVE MY FLASH STICK, AND WAIT A DAY?

I grab my flash stick, and call KINKOS. I rip on the girl to they guy on the phone about how she didn't even know how to print a tiff. The guy is amused that she didn't know that. Then I ask him the crucial questions.

Does it take a day with them? Yes, unless I want to spend a dollar per print. Nnnnnnnnno thanks. I'll wait the day.

Second question, can you print the double sided tiffs? Answer: If I want to make it really hard on them. I need to make all my files into one big PDF, then give it to them, if not, he'll have to do it, and it'll cost extra.

STAPLES WINS!!!!!! HANDS DOWN!!!!!

I can't count Kinkos out completely. Because what I learned today is that the people that run the machines, might not know exactly what they need to know to print a zine or comic book. But it just so happens that THIS STAPLES can print TIFFS without charging extra, and it's cheaper.

So ULTIMATELY, the frustrating part is having to wait for my prints tomorrow and if they line up perfectly, I'll ordre nine more and wait till Sunday or Monday for my final comic prints. If not, I'll have a MASTER COMIC ready to print the OLD FASHIONED way. But that might mean lower quality.

Ultimately, I need a laser scanner, so I don't have to deal with this crap! And oddly enough, my brother found one at a goodwill for 20 bucks and it works great. I allways find it funny how some places don't know how to price things. A free aol cd, the put a price tag for 10 bucks, an expensive printer that's never been used? Ehhhhhhh, 20 bucks.

Too bad he lives in Arizona, and I live in California, and I want my comic done ASAP!!!!

That's the hardest part of the self-publishing comic process. All my stuff is done, and now I have to wait.

That, and I've been cranking and organizing this thing for over a year now, so I am just so sick of not seeing this thing come together finally.

It's been a great learning experience, allthough my wife feels very neglected, since I've been obsessing over this stuff lately. I NEED TO GET THIS COMIC DONE!!!!!!

Now, I just have to wait a day.....

Good news, my prints are done. Bad news, they were done in portrait, not landscape, so now I have to have them redone. Man, I hate this!!! I can't wait until I get my laser printer.... and I wasn't drinking chocolate milk.
